TRAVEL
Mitchell's Plains public transport isn’t exactly the embodiment of efficiency, depending on the mode you've chosen, and if you’re on a tight schedule, you should organize your own private ride. Failing that, you can arrange a car pool group or even brave the local minibus taxis. Saying that though, traveling from A to B in and out of MItchell's Plain, is easier than one could imagine.
Metrorail
At one stage, this was almost always the fastest way to get in and out of Mitchells Plain, except for late at night when a bus or e-hailing service would be your safest option and services are more regular than trains or taxis.
Travel safe
The safest time to travel is between 6am-9am and 4pm-6pm. Minimize unnecessary risks by traveling on the Metro Plus class and keeping all your valuables close at hand and out of sight.

A short background on the status of the central line
In a media briefing earlier this year (January 2022), Prasa board chairperson Leonard Ramatlakane announced that it would cost over R2.5 billion to fix the central line in the Western Cape.
The initial budget for the line was R1.2 billion.
The line has been closed since October 2019 and other than vandalism and theft, it now has thousands of illegal occupiers living on the train lines.
Prasa said that the current budget for the central Line alone was just below R2 billion and with the project to get people off the railway line, it will increase to around R2.5 billion.
Golden Arrow Bus Services
GA provides scheduled passenger services in and out of Mitchell’s Plain. Their services are pretty reliable throughout the year and are deemed the safest means of transport by many.
Very much like the train services, they extend their hours to 23:00 and -00:00 in festive seasons to accommodate staff from major shopping centres around the city.
Mini Bus Taxi systems in Mitchell's Plain
This is no doubt the most easily accessible means of public transport to and from Mitchell's Plain, from almost anywhere in the city. It’s an industry that is regulated within it's own ambit and 100% privatized.
Without mincing any words around this sector, because drivers are driven by meeting daily targets, getting between destinations in the fastest times means possible, is key. Just that, makes this mode of transport your best bet at getting to your destination fast, if not in record time.
If you have a penchant for loud music, into a variety of the latest club and Amapiano /Gqom tracks, AND love beats blaring out of 2 12" Subs mounted under the back seat of the vehicle, then every ride will be one you'll not easily forget.
